Luminous Decay is an original mezzotint and embossing by artist Rhianna Catt. The plate itself is cut to the shape of the moth, allowing the image to be debossed directly into the paper - adding subtle depth and a sculptural quality to the print.
This piece explores the the duality of moths, creature that live in darkness that are drawn to the light. How they are seen as other, even though they are a natural part of nature, though people have the sense of them being unnatural. Created as a study in both process and design. Printed in a rich dark olive/sage green ink.
