The Eclipse - Original Hand-Finished Mezzotint and Debossing
The Singularity is an original mezzotint and embossing which is hand-finished with watercolour by artist Rhianna Catt. The plate itself is cut to the shape of the cuckoo wasp, allowing the image to be debossed directly into the paper, adding subtle depth and a sculptural quality to the print.
Unlike the other pieces in this series which are called after their collective noun, as a cuckoo wasps are solitary creatures it has a name that reflects that.
Cuckoo wasps are fascinating creatures, they do not have a stinger therefore unable to harm humans. They are considered a parasitic wasp as they take over nests of other wasps. They also can be may different colours but have the texture and iridescence of a jewel.
The prints are hand-finished with watercolour, therefore each one is subtly different and unique. The paper is ripped by hand, therefore the prints may be of slightly different sizes.
